Brad 19.08.2024 03:26:09 Wow, what a result! IT sounds like things literally cam unglued! I'm surprised by the "double everything" approach...generally not that great of an idea to mess with the designer's specifications. Glad she was able to walk away. These days, rebuilding a broken wooden glider takes some time and talent.
Our instructor at Eagleville bought one. The guy who built it , upsized every piece. If it called for 1/2 " he put in 3/4 " wood , 2" went to 3" and so on.
She entered a contest at Ceasar Creek and had to land out. The field has a ditch across it she didn't see and hit it. The cockpit exploded around her. She brought it back and her condo manager let her rebuild it in a unfinished condo. she removed all parts forward of the seat back and built from there. Dont think she ever finished it.
Thanks for uploading that picture again. I'm sure I wrote something to that plane last time (that was in Discord, have deleted all programs and apps since then). In my opinion it's a very beautiful plane, especially I like the "Mooney"-tail, may it have advantages or disadvantages, it looks fantastic. I read about a glide ratio of 34, it's the same like a K6E, the highest performing plane I flew IRL. Have you ever flown it since you bought it?
Found that video on youtube about a flying BG12/16, not a good quality, but you can imagine how that plane looks in the air. Interesting btw the signs the wingman gives to the tow pilot, we do it very different. IMHO your way is the better one, because you are always active and keep the focus, while we can sleep during that procedure. We hold the arm vertical - hand in the sky without any moving - until the tow is tight, then horizontal
Unfortunately, David, not a lot of flying the past few years. When I do, it is either Morgan County, Heber City, or Nephi.
I agree, Peter, no random to life!
Thanks Brad for your nice comment. I know a little bit about the region around Heber Valley because it was the first place where I flew virtual with the free version of Xtreme soaring. That was in 2020. The place is called there "Utah" and in the free version you can fly an ASK 21. Maybe three month later I started with Condor. Interesting that I met David in Xtreme Soaring the first time and you are living IRL in that region, where I flew first virtual. I don't believe there is only random in the world.
To explore that region I made the OneDesign task for next month with (I hope) good conditions out of Heber Valley. There will be wind for the ridges and good thermals and a return task, so nearly free to fly where you want. I hope we will have fun flights there (but I'm still busy in September too, have another family meeting in Germany that month)
Utah is done and can be downloaded from the web side. Impressive landscape with only 149 airports.
I will soon start the next landscape. If I get St. George and Los Angeles on one landscape, I have the connection to the west coast. Looks good, but I'm not sure yet. Another location I want to make is Barron Hilton's Flying M Ranch, but I don't believe I will get it on the same landscape, maybe at the border, but I want to have good space around that airport. So these are the next projects, but nothing is started just now (maybe tomorrow).
