Task F

Peter 05.08.2024 08:35:03

Here the finish of task F in Condor forum

David 01.08.2024 19:40:16

Yes , I have to agree, another great Cirrus flight, Brad

Peter 01.08.2024 11:48:45

Another very good flight with the Cirrus, Brad, congratulations. Task F is finished now, the servers run task G (I'm on a short stop at home for the garden). The publishing of the result in Condor forum will happen next week

Peter 01.08.2024 07:02:25

Thank you Brad, looks like I had a good run in this task

Brad 31.07.2024 23:52:05

Thank you. Peter, your flights have been untouchable. Amazing work getting the points you have for your top flights. Congratulations on such outstanding results!

Peter 30.07.2024 08:11:51

I agree, fun are they all. And I see another fun and good one with the Cirrus. Well done!

Brad 29.07.2024 22:33:20

Thanks. That K6 flight was a bit tricky...but they are all fun! :-) Happy to be home for the after flight BBQ!

David 29.07.2024 14:48:54

Yes Brad , another good one.

Peter 29.07.2024 11:20:54

Nice Ka6 flight Brad, a little bit unlucky with the 28 % rule

Peter 24.07.2024 23:07:16

With the replay you can watch my flight, but with the ftr as ghost you can fly together with the ghost (in that case with my flight)

Peter 24.07.2024 23:03:35

On the Flight planner, NOTAM, deselect "Equal weather" and select the ftr file, start then the flight
Ghost.png - Ghost.png

Peter 24.07.2024 23:00:17

Ok, I found it out. For a ghost you don't need the replay,  you need the flight track. Copy the flight track in FlightTracks VS-2024-07-20.zip - VS-2024-07-20.zip

Peter 24.07.2024 22:13:37

There is a folder "replays" or similiar, copy it there but not in flightplans

David 24.07.2024 16:43:32

Downloaded the RPY file , transferred it to user flight plans , did not open

David 24.07.2024 14:52:23

Good flight Brad.

Thank you , Peter. I tried to use your flight track . I printed it from See You , but to no avail.

Peter 24.07.2024 12:07:14

Great flight, Brad, congratulations!

Peter 23.07.2024 22:26:51

Saw your K8 flight David, seems not to be so easy to find the right way. I have saved a replay of my K8 flight, you can use it as ghost, if you like. I never flew with ghost, so I don't know how to do that, but you can try.
BTW: If you want to save a replay of your flight, it's important to save first the igc file, because after saving the replay the option for randomize weather is gone (for sure a bug in Condor), and the flight can't be uploaded to the Vintage Series.

David 22.07.2024 17:33:22

Nice

Peter 22.07.2024 16:50:52

The lift, right below cloud base. View to Zeltweg, where we flew often in xtreme-soaring Shot34.jpg - Shot34.jpg

Peter 22.07.2024 07:05:12

Thanks, yes that lift was flight saving and came at the right place and at the right time. There was a small hill under the cloud, so I expected a combination of ridge and lift. It started very strong and became weaker further up, but in average 3,6 m/s very good, gave me 1300 meters in 6 minutes. Had nearly the same at the ASW20 flight (only another hill), so these small hills south of the big valley (= Murtal = the valley of the river Mur) on leg 2 are worth to observe.

Brad 22.07.2024 04:00:46

Yes, a great '21 flight, Peter, well done. It shows going that way around it a good route. Looks like a flight saving thermal for you there on the second leg! You have shown great results with this task and we'll be out hunting! :-) I love finding optimal routes given conditions and terrain, especially doing it vintage style!

Peter 21.07.2024 15:53:12

Good luck!

David 21.07.2024 15:34:33

Good flight in the 21 , that’s a good route . I’ll try it this week in the K8.

David 21.07.2024 15:30:17

Great flight in the Baby , especially with the poor l/d of the Baby

Peter 21.07.2024 11:55:07

Thanks Brad. I now have delivered, the hunting is open ;-). Very interesting task, but for me I don't see the possibility to improve more. I'm very happy with all of my flights. So if I find a slot to fly (I don't believe it, but you never know), I will fly an "Others" plane, Discus or Ventus3-15 will be the favorites. Will see.

Interesting Baby flight Brad, always difficult to fly a Baby with (or better said against) the wind. Well done!

Brad 21.07.2024 07:55:41

Excellent flights, Peter, congratulations with the great results!

Peter 21.07.2024 06:55:45

Thanks. I got some more possibilities to fly this month than expected, so I have one last flight today to improve my ASK 21 result

David 20.07.2024 22:39:37

Ggreat flight in the 8 , over 200 points.

Dave 20.07.2024 15:28:54

Yes the direction you flew, was opposite mine. But climbing that last ridge to the south , that is the only way. How was the leg home with the headwind component?

Peter 20.07.2024 06:57:11

The last leg home through the valley along the ridge is very fast in spite of the headwind. When the ridge begins you have 50 km to fly, height QFE 1000 m, so you can use the ridge to keep the height and the last 20/30 km loose some height to come home at 0 m height. Speed to keep the height was 160/170 km/h, later over 200 and sinking maybe 1 m/s. The headwind component takes ca. 10 km/h speed, but you have the big advantage of the tailwind at leg 2, the only part of the flight you have to circle. Needed only three lifts for to fly leg 2 and got an average climb rate of 3 m/s.

Dave 20.07.2024 03:48:06

Yes the direction you flew, was opposite mine. But climbing that last ridge to the south , that is the only way. How was the leg home with the headwind component?

Peter 19.07.2024 22:55:10

Thanks, until someone will find a faster way I guess that is the best and fastest course for that task. Everything went well, enjoyed really that flight

David 19.07.2024 22:48:53

TtThe task planner had the numbers just about right on.

Dave 19.07.2024 21:43:07

Very interesting flight , Peter . Well done. Looks familiar.

Dave 19.07.2024 02:52:13

Congrats , Avelina, welcome back.

Dave 19.07.2024 02:44:36

Looking for a ridge task, weak ridge lift.glad thermals worked.

Brad 19.07.2024 00:04:13

Yes, Avelina is back! Good to see her post a flight! Nice route through the valleys, Dave. What, no desire for a "death dive"!? :-D

David 18.07.2024 23:32:53

Did a Xtreme soaring 3D tour.

Peter 18.07.2024 23:01:59

Interesting flight with the LS3, David, well done

Peter 18.07.2024 00:01:10

Great, Avelina is back, first flight since March, well done (hope you will read it)

Brad 17.07.2024 20:36:41

Thanks guys. Yes, I couldn't stop flying after having reached the end of the ridge, then just kept going because I was having a good time. I knew that last bit would be all out speed down through the canyon and some spoilers out to make it to the field at a reasonable altitude for landing...ha ha, "death dive" might be a good description but I was not in any danger. ;-) I am encouraged by the result enough to try the other way around to see what difference the wind makes on leg 2 and not having to "death dive" on leg 3.

Great fun to be exploring the area this way!

David 17.07.2024 15:14:04

Great flight even against the head wind , looks like death dive at the end.

Peter 17.07.2024 10:11:20

Great flight with the ASW20, Brad, 120 km/h against the route, means with headwind on leg 2 and disadvantage on the final glide. So the potential for the right way looks very good

Brad 16.07.2024 05:55:16

Agreed, no shorter than 210km with the ASW20. You are committed after TP2 and can only hope for the best after that. Without a stopwatch!?, very nice work indeed! Now, let us see if the lift will cooperate with the plan! Good luck to you as well.

Peter 15.07.2024 22:41:21

That will be interesting how fast this route will be with an ASW20, let's try to take the best out of it. I worry most about to take a too short course and being home too early. The AAT rule allows to fly longer without being penalized. For to get the same points like my ASK21 flight ca. 190 km are needed in 90 minutes, but I wouldn't plan shorter than 210 kilometers, best more (210 km in 90 minutes = 140 km/h, 240 km in 90 minutes = 160 km/h, but 240 km in 102 minutes = 140 km/h, so only 12 minutes more). Think it goes faster than expected and you are home after 85 minutes. You can't correct that after tp2 on a 2 turn points. For the ASK21 flight I planned 195 km, got only 188 because of the place, the tow plane towed me, but I was clear over that a flight below 2 hours would be fast enough. So I still like the AAT rule without having the need to be back at exactly the right time, and that flight was the first one I didn't used a stop watch. I only enjoyed it ...

It will be very exciting. Good luck!

Brad 15.07.2024 21:36:37

Thank you for the OneDesign comments. You know how we like to be close!

The flight started slow and with a deviation for clouds...considered abandoning the flight at that point, but thought "might as well see how it goes from here." Things got going better after the initial deviation and found some good climbs. I figured if it worked going one way, it should work going the other! The big decision was the same as we have in an O&R...when to turn back. I also figured I would not have the trees or squirrels in the way if I approached the target from the North. ;-)

Peter, you are now thinking was I was thinking, try the ASW20 on that route you took with the ASK21.

Peter 15.07.2024 16:01:38

Thanks, I thought my whole boats tour on that course ... ;-)

David 15.07.2024 15:22:16

Nice flight in a 21, well done

David 15.07.2024 14:59:52

Good one design Brad , cloooose to Peter

Peter 15.07.2024 09:15:33

Thanks. Yes, that ridge works very well, flew first a very short test flight (airborn) from Trieben and it was better than expected. So I guess that route is the best one for this task. Leg 1 is only ridge, leg 3 too. The leg to win or loose is leg 2. I came too low to a ridge there and had to fly around. Finding a lift before that ridge will give a better speed. I only can recommend to try that route. Next Sunday I maybe will have a slot to try the ASW20 on that route.

Nice OneDesign flight, Brad, interesting course. Well done!

Brad 15.07.2024 05:54:38

Great flight with the ASK, Peter, congratulations! I had been looking at the ridge you took for final glide...seems to work OK.

Peter 14.07.2024 23:32:54

For sure that was very low, unfortunately I wasn't able to make a screenshot before I knew I will survive ... There were only trees around me. The hill falls down a little bit to the right, so I followed the right side, that gave me the few meters I needed.

Have seen such an approach IRL 1980, a guy from our club in an S-18 vintage glider from another club, nobody guessed he will make it, but it went well for him too

David 14.07.2024 21:45:31

Looked at the flight on see you, you almost hit cars on the Beechmont Levee.

Peter 14.07.2024 19:13:24

Indeed, they did Shot21.jpg - Shot21.jpg

Brad 14.07.2024 18:22:20

Yes, excellent flight, Peter, congratulations! I'm sure your closeness to the tree surprised those virtual squirrels too. And, at 60km/h they might have been tempted to jump on your wing and go for a ride! :-)

Peter 14.07.2024 15:49:49

now I know that too, I had to follow the relief, didn't expected it will end well (lucky me sitting safe on my office chair), came over the last tree with 60 km/h, minimum speed is 50 km/h. I am now known by the virtual squirrels of Cincinnati ;-)

David 14.07.2024 15:23:04

Lunken sits lower, that’s why they use CVG , great flight.

Peter 14.07.2024 15:20:22

Peter 14.07.2024 15:19:21

Oops, that was close. Final glide with an unexpected hill Shot19.jpg - Shot19.jpg

Peter 13.07.2024 14:51:22

Back at home both servers were offline due to automatic windows updates, running again now

David 11.07.2024 15:52:04

 It was indeed

Peter 11.07.2024 10:13:58

Looks a hard flight with the K8, David

Peter 09.07.2024 15:25:23

 I guessed it

David 09.07.2024 14:06:07

Did not realize that

Peter 09.07.2024 08:09:33

Nice flight, David. You know it's a "target with 2 turn points"?

Brad 09.07.2024 02:59:58

Ha ha, for sure you don't want the horizon off your tip...or top in this case! I too have sailed boats, love it! Enjoy the sailing!

Peter 08.07.2024 13:16:05

It's like looking along a wing, but if you see the horizon, you are in trouble 20240708_091836.jpg - 20240708_091836.jpg

Brad 07.07.2024 06:36:18

Thank you, I found a couple of good thermals, and navigation was good. Of course, I will have to try the mountains! ;-)

David 06.07.2024 15:24:12

Good flight Brad, I have to agree with Peter, northern route looks better.

Peter 06.07.2024 08:16:58

Very good flight, Brad, congratulations! Looks like the north route can be the better one

Peter 06.07.2024 07:26:07

Thanks, will start today, weather is far away from good, cold and a lot of rain, but if I don't do it now, it will not happen this year

Good luck with the flights, the Alps task seems to be more difficult than expected, especially navigation wasn't easy for me on my first two flights. But interesting nevertheless

David 05.07.2024 20:28:44

Good flights , have fun with visitors and sailing. Nice pics

Peter 05.07.2024 16:56:09

Brad 04.07.2024 06:22:32

Peter, it sounds like you've got some good busy things going on. Have a great time with the sailboat and your visitors! Thank you for hosting the servers.

Dave 02.07.2024 18:30:05

Loved the video, that’s vintage sailplanes.

Peter 02.07.2024 17:21:10

Yes, good old times :-D

A mix of Ka6, K7, K8, Spatz and some others

Dave 02.07.2024 15:51:36

Loved the video, that’s vintage sailplanes.

Peter 02.07.2024 07:18:29

There will be unfortunately no multi player flight for this task organized by me, because I'm very busy with other things this month (sailboat trip, visitors). I'm not sure if I can fly all 4 flights, but I will try. Of course the server is running and team speak should be online too

David 01.07.2024 21:25:36

Thank you

Peter 01.07.2024 20:42:48

That task is of course made especially for you, David. The next one will be more in Brads direction

David 01.07.2024 16:04:48

Well the One Design is taking off from my home gliderport, home of Caesar Creek flying club. My 1-26 I used to own is based there. Lunken is where is I did some flying from. you could drive it faster than a 1-26 could fly it.

Peter 01.07.2024 14:51:31

Task E is finished, task F started, hope to get better weather conditions this month
