Task G

Brad 03.09.2024 05:38:28

Spectacular to do this in a real Baby! Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures!

Peter 02.09.2024 22:01:55

Nearly at the same time when we flew the Babies in Brambostel another Baby flew only a few kilometers from that airport. The picture is from Sunday, they did 8 flights, one of it one hour. Baby-flying IRL looked this way that day: climbing in a lift to 900 meters (cloud base or inversion height, I don't know but they didn't came higher), flying back to the airport against the wind. Arriving there in 300-400 meters, finding a lift, climbing to 900 meters, flying back to the airport against the wind. Arriving there in 300-400 meters a.s.o. He called it JoJo-Flying. With their permission I share the picture, fantastic good looking plane

Peter 01.09.2024 23:28:41

Thanks both ;-)

Brad 01.09.2024 22:35:47

Enjoy this wonderful time with family, Peter, congratulations to all!

David 01.09.2024 13:59:11

Congrats to her and to your family.

Peter 01.09.2024 09:06:26

Task G is finished now. Thanks and congratulations to all!   The next days I'm out of office (our daughters wedding seems to be a little bit more important than virtual flying ;-) ), so I recommend  to download the flight plans here. If the server will go down, it will not come up again automatically. That means the homepage will be offline and the Condor servers will not run in that case. taskH.zip - taskH.zip

Peter 01.09.2024 07:32:00

Thanks Brad! To the North German squirrels: on our clubs K6E we have had one. The picture from 1979 shows my father before the start. On the nose, not really to recognize, the name "Faßberg" and on top of the name sitting a brown squirrel. The plane was build in 1968 and christened by my mother that year. The last two digits of the sign were used as CN, therefor I changed my CN this year to "86".

Brad 01.09.2024 05:56:44

Fantastic Pilatus flight, Peter, congratulations! Sometimes those flight we're not sure about turn out well! ;-) Not to worry, no flight today for me...too tired after a day working in the yard. I appreciate the squirrels in North Germany don't scare! That would be heartbreaking to roll to a finish just short of the line, poor pilot!

Peter 31.08.2024 19:56:55

... and of course there is still your chance in OneDesign, only 9 points ... ;-)

Peter 31.08.2024 19:54:11

Thanks, was a hard one and I didn't expected it will be good enough, was surprised by the result. Expect now a Cirrus flight from Brad in the last night before the task is finished, good luck ;-)

David 31.08.2024 19:36:47

Nice flights by both , good job

Peter 31.08.2024 16:21:42

Oh I see, you came right over the trees with nothing left for to do anything else than just landing. But don't worry about the squirrels, it's a north german variety that nothing scares.

I did the same approach on my first Baby flight there and wih the DG808. I like the rule without any minimum height like in old times, but it's not very good for the heart.Sitting lucky on the office chair it's not dangerous, but I don't want to crash. Sometimes it's very close.

I remember a story from a RL competition in that old times. There was a line on the ground the plane has to cross for to get a valid finish. A Nimbus 2 landed right before that line and rolled to it, but couldn't cross it. There where only 2-3 meters missing. He didn't got the finish points. Calculated back for a plane with a glide ratio of 49 he needed for 3 meters distance 6 centimeters height. In a 2 m/s lift (4 knots) it's 0,03 seconds longer climbing

Brad 31.08.2024 15:53:25

Thank you.  I was lucky to make it home, not finding any bumps on final glide to help the glide ratio. I think I may have scared the squirrels on that one!

Peter 31.08.2024 09:27:19

Wow, what a great flight with the Baby, Brad, congratulations! Really amazing!

Peter 28.08.2024 13:56:20

Brad 28.08.2024 00:29:15

Thank you, David, great fun this is...and a bit of a brain test!

David 27.08.2024 14:59:25

 Nice flight, Brad

Peter 27.08.2024 10:26:43

Overtime isn't longer a problem, if you fly long enough ;-). So you can win f.x. with a 3 hours flight, in the case of your last flight you will need then a distance of round about 330 km. Advantage is, you can fly where you want, and if you like to fly a longer course, just do it. Only be fast to win. I don't use a stop watch any longer, I calculate the distance I need, choose a course a little bit longer (20 km?, or if I like to fly to a special place even more) and try to fly as fast as possible.

Brad 27.08.2024 07:45:18

Thank you, Peter. I knew I would be over time, but didn't know how close the score would be...I got lucky once again.

Peter 27.08.2024 07:30:49

Great Cirrus flight, Brad, well done. I tried to beat my own flight on Sunday but without success. Very close, I like that ... ;-) Congratulations!

Peter 24.08.2024 16:45:46

Yes, very nice flight with the 20 Brad, very fast with a little bit more than 50 % ballast, amazing. Congratulation!

Brad 24.08.2024 15:29:43

Thank you. I found a couple of really good thermals that helped. One must be fast if you want to keep up with Peter! :-)

David 24.08.2024 15:25:57

Nice flight in the 20 Brad . fast times,

Peter 23.08.2024 16:51:51

Thanks, I had to try it the other way around ;-)

David 23.08.2024 15:22:34

Nice flight in the DG, Peter

David 23.08.2024 14:57:30

Was not sure of where I was.

Peter 23.08.2024 14:36:18

Nice flight, David, looks like you was distracted by another place looking similar to the airport

Brad 22.08.2024 06:28:55

Looks like some task area exploring in the Cirrus, Dave, love it!

Anonymous 19.08.2024 14:47:21

I knew that if I made the field , that times and speed would be slower. But hoping the bonus would make up for that. But it didn’t. Flight one , I knew I was too low to make the airport, could not find a thermal.

Peter 19.08.2024 11:49:57

Saw your OneDesign flight from Friday not before now, David, it's a very good flight, well done. Unfortunately 0,3 points below your first one. Next time you will combine the speed of flight 1 with the finish of flight 2

David 17.08.2024 23:07:02

I went on the front side, actually over the top, had excess height, but didn’t want to get caught short.

David 17.08.2024 22:52:22

Brad 17.08.2024 20:19:26

Thank you. I didn't like the tow direction, making the task shorter for me, so I knew I had to fly faster to make up for it. A bit slow to get though the Southern part but then things picked up nicely. That last ridge worked well but going around the back side of the ridge between where I was and the goal was a bit dicey with a LOT of sink behind it. I was committed so on I went as fast as I dared to get through it. Fortunately, the altitude in hand gave me the cushion need to make it home.

David 17.08.2024 15:45:45

yes Brad, good flight , most excellent

Peter 17.08.2024 09:38:23

Great OneDesign flight, Brad, that was really fast! Congratulations!

Peter 17.08.2024 06:41:50

Thanks. It was a test for the multiplayer. I hope we will have a nice flight then. Thermals are good and navigation isn't really difficult. There are some colored spots for orientation and the big test center of Rheinmetall. They are building tanks and other military things there, but they will not shoot when we are flying there ;-)

Living there IRL you often hear the shooting, I grew up with Rheinmetall in the East and some military training ranges in the West. 4 years I was living right between two such ranges. In these 4 years they shot 4 times - of course by accident - into the village. The worst accident in that time was at 11 a.m. very close to a school with a lot of children. Bigger damage at a house but nobody hurt. Most of the people there are military, so there is no public resistance against such accidents. In the 1960s they completely destroyed a Kindergarten in the night while it was empty.

I like the region nevertheless, but it would be much better without the military

Brad 17.08.2024 05:59:55

Congratulations on a great Baby flight, Peter, well done!

Peter 16.08.2024 17:34:13

Thanks, I tried 100 km to see, how far I come in 90 minutes. So my suggestion for the multiplayer will be a 90 km flight. Wanted to wright it today, but was too busy. Will come soon

David 16.08.2024 14:10:33

Nice flight in the Baby , nice time too.

Peter 12.08.2024 08:53:46

Very good OneDesign flight Brad, the points difference depend for sure only on the release point from the tow plane, so only luck for me. But David is still much more faster, unbelievable fast!

Brad 12.08.2024 07:46:13

Yes, the OneDesign task is tricky...and deserves a couple of tries! Nice flights, Peter! You have set the bar high again!

Peter 11.08.2024 19:28:39

A picture will be nice, if you have one another day

David 11.08.2024 19:21:53

The majority of the mountain is vertical. The level part is about 500 feet till it drops off. He has a logging road below that. His land ends 200 feet below that.

Peter 11.08.2024 18:48:18

I will try Thursday the Baby to find out, what I will suggest for the multiplayer. Today I wanted to fly a 200 km triangle, independend of how long it takes. Was happy with a little bit under 2 hours

Peter 11.08.2024 17:20:03

25 acres for a caravan, must be a very big one :-D. But sounds very good, lots of space on the top of a mountain

David 11.08.2024 16:28:48

I was traveling to my son’s property 3 hours away in Tennessee. He bought 25 acres on a mountain top for his caravan. Have no pictures. We were gone all day as we went there and back , the same day.  Long day.

David 11.08.2024 16:23:29

I see you were busy yesterday with flying. 3 tasks. I’m saving the Blanik category for the multi player .

David 11.08.2024 16:20:34

I intend to , yes my flight was close to yours , I have intending to redo my flight…..

 Y

Peter 10.08.2024 14:52:44

I thought I made a "walk in the park" for OneDesign, but it's close to "highway to hell". David, your flight was much better than mine, you should try it again. If you finish you will beat me for sure. Please do it!

David 07.08.2024 18:04:09

I just logged on line , flew for a few and saved it as an FPL file.

Brad 07.08.2024 06:41:11

 Excellent. Thank you, Peter!

Peter 06.08.2024 05:33:59

Oops, example flight plan is now in the task document and here

Brad 06.08.2024 03:39:46

Peter, I don't  find an example flight plan for Task G; I would like to use it as I am flying offline currently. Thank you!

Brad 31.07.2024 23:53:51

Yes, good work, David. It seems that last bit of ridge is a challenge. Looking forward to seeing how everything works out for that OneDesign task.

David 31.07.2024 15:05:37

 Thank you

Peter 31.07.2024 08:19:00

Nice flight David. So the ridge works (I wasn't very sure it does) and the time is good, to find the target airport remains

Peter 25.07.2024 15:05:14
